Our founder had been overweight and wanted to lose weight, so she started by cutting sugar from her diet. Like many others, she turned to sweeteners, but it quickly became clear they didn’t work like sugar. They were expensive, tasted unpleasant, and failed in baking and cooking. With a background in sonochemistry and experience from several high-tech startups, she asked a different question: instead of trying to replace sugar, could we make sugar itself better? In 2021, Gova was officially founded. Soon after, we set up our own lab, secured funding, and achieved proof-of-concept together with real customers. Today, our natural encapsulation technology improves both sugar and sweeteners: reducing calories, removing aftertaste, and keeping the functionality food companies depend on. And yes.. she also managed to lose more than 22 kilos along the way.
